East meets West in Southeastern Connecticut’s first and only Tapas Bar! Newly opened in New London, Dev’s on Bank Street is a Mediterrasian Tapas Bar and Restaurant that brings the tradition of Spain with a touch of Asia into its food. Dev’s Tapas are best described as small, savory Spanish and Asian influenced dishes that serve as a snack or with other tapas as a meal. Our family provides guests a unique dining experience by combining contemporary cuisine and classic friendly service. Our insistence on using only the freshest ingredients and taking advantage of the bounty of our local farmers guarantees an explosion of taste to every bite! Owners Candace & Bunny have lived in Spain and Taiwan, which is how we developed our Mediterrasian concept ~ and then get ready to be greeted by Bunny who will personally welcome you into our “home”! We are located at 357 Bank Street near the center of New London, right next door to where the original Ye Olde Tavern was for many years, about one block west of the fire station.
Tapas is the name for a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold or warm. In the United States tapas have evolved into an entire cuisine; at Spanish restaurants, patrons may order many different small tapas, and combine them for a full meal. The original tapas were the slices of bread which wine drinkers in Andalusian taverns used to cover their glasses between sips. This was a practical measure meant to prevent fruit flies from hovering over the sweet sherry. But soon, enterprising bartenders were putting small snacks on the bread, and the lowly tapa (from tapa derived the verb tapar, “to cover”) became as important as the wine. Take a look at our tapas menu, we feature a wide selection of wonderful tapas in the Andalusian-Mediterranean tradition. Now come and experience tapas for yourself!
